Recommended Reading

The Training Program will use as its text:

  • Yalom, I. D. 2005). The theory and practice of group psychotherapy. New York: Basics Books.

Yalom's book will supply the backdrop for much of our discussions of the theory and mechanics of group leadership.

In addition, the following books are recommend as helpful in understanding the basic premises of Relational and Self Psychotherapy and their application to group work:

  • Stone, W. & Rutan, S. (2001). Psychodynamic group psychotherapy. New York: Guilford .

          Stone and Rutan's book will offer a context for running groups based on a relational model.

 
  • Harwood, I. N. H. & Pines, M. (Eds.). (1998). Self experiences in group: Intersubjective and self psychological pathways to human understanding. Londan: Jessica Kingsley.

          This is a collection of articles on the application of Self Psychology to psychotherapy groups.
